This time we are going to be discussing silent letters! Just as there are words in a sentence that are clearly not stressed as much as others, some letters in words are the same as well. For example: bomb, dumb, and comb. Each of these ends with the letter b, but the pronunciation of the word doesn't include the "b" sound. D-U-M (dumb). Here, "b" is considered a silent letter and would not be pronounced. In order to identify whether or not a word contains a silent letter takes practice and memorization. Try looking up a list of words with silent letters and notice patterns in how the words are written and sound when spoken.
