The weather has finally started cooling off and the leaves are starting to change color so I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about some fall traditions in my family.There are two major holidays in fall that my family celebrates: Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Halloween is a holiday that originally started out as All Hallows Eve (The name All Hallows’ Eve means the day before a very holy day), and it’s a time when all sorts of evil spirits come out, so people dress up as monsters in order to scare them away. 

For Halloween, we would decorate our house with lots of scary decorations like ghosts and witches. My favorite decoration was the lifesize werewolf that would sit outside our front door. It was made up of some bloody and ripped clothes stuffed with newspapers plus a lifelike werewolf mask for the head and werewolf gloves for hands. It was very scary.

We also enjoy going to the corn maze for Halloween. They grow the maze out of corn and it’s very easy to get lost but it’s a lot of fun! Then you can buy some pumpkins at the pumpkin patch to carve into jack-o-lanterns.

After Halloween comes Thanksgiving when everyone comes together for a feast. We eat turkey and cranberry sauce and talk about what we’re thankful for. After dinner, we always have a big pumpkin pie. I love Thanksgiving because it’s a holiday that focuses on spending time with your friends and families.
