Have you heard the term "ghost town?" It's actually not related to ghosts; it just means that the town is empty of people. This is the case for some areas of California City. California City is about a 90-minute drive north of Las Angeles in California. The population is about 14,000, but you wouldn't guess that based on pictures of planned streets and buildings that were never constructed.

In 1958, a sociology professor from the Czech Republic named Nathan Mendelsohn bought 82,000 acres of land, hoping to build a large dream city. Around that time, there were newspaper ads for people to invest in the city, but in the end there was a lawsuit in 1975 that made refunds available to the buyers. Now, not too much construction has been done except for the main area.
