Halloween is celebrated on October 31st every year. Today, we see it as a chance to dress up in a costume and go trick-or-treating, but Halloween had a very different beginning.

Over 2,000 years ago on October 31st, the Celtic people of Ireland used to wear costumes while warding off the spirits of the dead in an attempt to predict the future and ask the gods for a bountiful harvest of crops. After the Roman invasion, this tradition mixed with Roman Catholic day of remembering the passing of the dead.

Eventually in the 1800's, this tradition reached America, which was bringing in a lot more immigrants from Ireland and England. Americans used to dress up, have parties and tell ghost stories, and from there, the tradition of Halloween evolved.
